James Campbell - paintings and ceramicsFeaturing the work of James Campbell, this exhibition of ceramics and paintings is concerned with the evocation of the landscape of West Wales where he spent his childhood. James Campbell is giving an informal talk about his work in gallery 1 on Saturday 3rd July at 12 noon.
Admission will be FREE.

A CELEBRATION OF ART

ROOK LANE CHAPEL

An exhibition organised by the rotary club of Frome to celebrate the work of artists working in the Frome area and shown to advantage in this beautiful, recently restored chapel. Two-dimensional work in a variety of media is exhibited throughout the festival.

BUSINESSES IN AND AROUND CHEAP STREET

9am - 5pm

During the festival, venues in Cheap Street will display etchings, lithographs and paintings from a variety of national and international artists. This is an excellent opportunity for wonderful art to be seen in your own time. Explanatory text is available in participating shops.

TALKING BOOKS

THE HUNTING RAVEN BOOKSHOP

9am–5pm

Mary Longford is an artist who works with video. Her work has been exhibited at east international 2002 and Newlyn Gallery 2003. This video is about moving house, seen from the perspective of a group of books, and features the voices of local residents Anthony Lacny, Annemieke Lumsden and Evangeline Langford-Lacny.

Julia Atkinson’s photo images are of closely observed coastal and land surfaces. A graduate of the Slade and Goldsmith’s, her experience of painting, printmaking and textile art informs her work, which seeks out the abstract qualities of nature.

An exhibition of photographs and photoart by Valerie and Greg Duncan, including Venetian scenes and colourful carnival characters. The images displayed will be changed during the festival.

Showing throughout the festival there is an opportunity to see paintings, prints and enamels by the notable local artist Sue Conrad, raku ceramics by Phoebe Clarke and an exciting collection of contemporary jewellery by a new young designer, Coralie Fish.

CHEKHOV IN FROME

Presented by Frome International Theatre (FIT). Performance and events linking our town with the great Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, who died 100 years ago on 2 July. See also Events.

New images in Frome from internationally renowned landscape photographer Charlie Waite combine with recordings of authentic local voices to explore Anton Chekov’s writing about country life and how it relates to our area.

Over 700 students’ work on display: painting, photography, ceramics and printmaking, animation, video, sculpture and textiles. Refreshments will be available on the opening night, live Vjing gig, presentations – all welcome. Throughout the festival in the town centre there will be a display of colourful flags and food-themed art pieces designed and made by 14 year-old students of Frome community college.

The Frome Wessex Camera Club and Frome Selwood Photographic Society are holding a joint exhibition of modern and contemporary photographs to promote photography. The prints are produced using both digital and traditional processes.
