is not. MENDIP'S PAST: THE MAKING OF An illustrated talk by Penny Stokes, Heritage Officer for Mendip District Council. People have been shaping the Mendip area to their needs for millennia. The people of the past have left their story for us to read in the local landscape, archaeology and buildings. This talk charts the major processes and periods which have formed the familiar countryside and settlements which we know and love. Refreshments available. ASSEMBLY ROOMS 2.30pm.

DARK LAUGHTER From outrageous toilet humour to cutting-edge political satire, black humour is part of a rich tradition in English literature. Local authors Karen Sainsbury and Crysse Morrison devised this event for their ‘Roving Writers’ tour of Somerset Libraries (funded by Arts Council England, South West and the County Arts Fund) and the discussion, lavishly illustrated by readings, is not for the faint-hearted . . . £10 advance, £12 door FRED WEDLOCK – FOLKER EXTRAORDINAIRE Fred will be here to give us his very own ideas and thoughts on modern Folk Music! Once described as the “West Country Billy Connolly”, Fred has been performing in folk clubs and concerts around the world since the late 1960s. Known for his many TV appearances and own TV series he had a massive hit with The Oldest Swinger in Town, so tonight come and see the oldest swinger in our town! THE GRANARY 8pm.
£7 (£5.50) JAZZ AT THE GARDEN: Now a firm end of festival tradition, this hugely popular event takes place outside (weather permitting) and this year sees John, on piano, joined by Bristol bassist Dave Griffiths and the fabulous saxophonist (now Frome resident) Iain Bellamy. Unwind with fantastic food, or just enjoy a drink, while the trio dips into the jazz standard repertoire. And will the blackbird sing this year or not? GARDEN CAFÉ 9.15pm till
