CRAFT ON THE HILL

Organised by the Made in Frome group of professional designer makers, this festival favourite showcases the town’s homegrown creative talent. A real family day with practical arts and crafts demonstrations and opportunities for hands-on experiences. Come along and try paper marbling, pottery, stone carving and more! Good Food, Live Music. Authors and publishers promoting their latest books. Lots of stalls. FAMILY DRUMMING

An introduction to African drumming and the magic of the drum circle. If you have always wanted to play a drum, come and give it a try in a supportive group. No experience necessary, all ages and abilities welcome, drums and percussion provided. Led by Mike McElya of the Sunshine Drumming Company. Refreshments available.

PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Pinhole photographer Justin Quinnell has taught, exhibited and been published around the world. He has exhibited in New York and been commissioned to work in Australia. He has appeared on ‘SMART’. ‘Every Home Should Have One’ and the Jonathan Ross Show. Some participants will be able to make and use their own pinhole cameras.

TERRY HILL BIG BAND

BRAZILIAN DANCE WITH IARA PAIXAO TYRELL

Brazilian Iara Paixao Tyrell teaches Maracatu, the high-energy dance of Brazil’s indigenous population. Learn also Capoeira and Iara’s own devised dance Belly Samba!

Frome Festival 2004 - The United Live BandFor one night only! For one night only! Wine, dine and dance in the streets. Fantastic foods from around the world served up with great music from the Frome Allstars (hardbop and spicey jazz, featuring Mike Peake and John Plaxton on trumpets and guest star Mike Mower on saxophone) and The United Live Band, with musicians from all over Africa under the leadership of Jennifer Lawala. A “FEAST” OF GILBERT & SULLIVAN

The Plymouth Gilbert and Sullivan Fellowship, celebrating its 81st year, will be presenting a wonderful Gilbert and Sullivan concert. They perform annually in the Theatre Royal Plymouth and are widely acclaimed in the South West of England as one of the outstanding, award-winning presenters of the works of WS Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. Frome Festival 2004 - Karen StreetFollowing a sell-out, standing ovation appearance at the Wiltshire Music Centre playing the gospel music of Pee Wee Ellis, the Nunney Jazz Cafe Quartet returns again to the spiritual tradition underlying jazz, in the magical atmosphere of St John’s Church at night, lit by candles. Original and classic material drawn from African chant, spirituals, work songs, soul jazz and the impassioned compositions of John Coltrane.
