CHRIS HARRIS WITH 'SHAKES-KIDS'
AN INTRODUCTION TO SHAKESPEARE

This hour long entertainment is aimed especially at an audience aged 7–11 and is an ideal introduction to Shakespeare.
Chris Harris's show demonstrates that there is so much more to Shakespeare than the written word. With the help of one of Shakespeare’s clowns, magic, music, mime and fun all combine to make this a memorable and cool experience!

GIVING VOICE

Local voice teacher Rasullah Clarke leads us through songs from around the world in 3 and 4 part harmony. Ability to read music isn’t necessary, but a desire to have fun singing is! Suitable for all abilities.

'MECHANICAL CLOCKS AND ROSES'

An organ recital by Ann Burgess, Director of Music at Christ Church.
Contrast and variation in music for organ, played on the Vowles pedal organ and the new Rushworth and Dreaper chamber organ. Programme will include Franck’s Pièce Heroïque, Kevin Duggan’s Metamorphosis, Haydn’s Pieces for Musical Clock and works by Bach, Purcell, Cabanilles, Byrd, Whitlock,Brahms, Heiller, Messiaen and Reger.

SINGING FOR 7-9 YEAR OLDS

Travel round the globe with Caroline Radcliffe on a search for big world tunes, energetic action songs and rollicking rounds. Caroline is a singer for a jazz band, a big band, an acoustic band and an acapella duo. She is choir leader at St Johns School and also leads songbird projects for Jackdaws in local schools.

CHRIS HARRIS - A WORKSHOP
SHAKESPEARE'S CLOWNS & FOOLS

A workshop that examines the role of the clown in Shakespeare’s plays. The characters, their purpose, the style of gags they employed and above all their relationship with the audience. Rehearse a scene with the Bard and hear his views on clowns that speak more than is required of them! A practical workshop with Chris Harris, whose famous one-man show has been seen in 57 countries.

THE POETRY CAFÉ

Frome’s popular Poetry Café is celebrating its 3rd anniversary with an all open-mic event featuring a totally new concept: ‘Champagne Slam’ - a friendly Frome-style version of this ‘extreme sport’ for poets. A bottle of bubbly for the slam winner, and entertainment for all. Bring a poem or just listen and enjoy.

FROME SYMPHONY

Frome’s lively and popular amateur orchestra performs Schubert’s transcendental Symphony No. 8 (the Unfinished) alongside Kenneth Leighton’s rhythmical Festive Overture. Following a successful Mozart concerto performance with the Mid-Somerset Orchestra this time last year, Frome Symphony’s Musical Director, Stephen Marquiss, will conduct Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C from the piano as a sparkling finale to an exciting programme.

RENOVATION OF SUN STREET
TALK BY ALASTAIR MACLEAY

Alastair MacLeay and his family have been renovating 17th, 18th and 19th century properties in the Frome area for 30 years. This illustrated lecture describes the renovation of five cottages in Sun Street from total dereliction to one of the most attractive terraces of houses in Frome. Refreshments available.

ISZVORASUL
ROMANIAN FOLK DANCE ENSEMBLE

Izvorasul is a 40-strong ensemble from Romania, who perform traditional songs and dances from Transylvania. They have delighted audiences across Europe, winning numerous international awards. Dressed in colourful costumes, their performance reflects the rich culture of this historic part of Eastern Europe. Their appearance at this year’s Frome Festival marks the start of their UK summer tour.

Experience the world’s most passionate and evocative music performed by the UK’s leading tango ensemble, Tango Siempre. Their music spans all eras and styles of Tango Argentino, including the classic tangos, milongas and waltzes of 1930’s Buenos Aires, the nuevo tango of Astor Piazzolla, and 21st century tangos by Pete Rosser and other contemporary composers. “Tango Siempre - the best tango band in the UK” – Songlines
