HIP HOP RESIDENCY: KICKSTART AND RAW & REAL
Kickstart will pave the way for RAW & REAL, a week-long
Summer School for young people during the first week of the summer holidays,
beginning on Monday 26 July and concluding with a performance at The Merlin
Theatre on Fri 30 July. For further details please contact the Festival Office (01373 453889).

SINGING FOR PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN Come and sing some crazy, funny and quite delightful action songs old and new with Caroline Radcliffe. Just bring yourself, a participating adult, and any baby siblings. Caroline is an experienced singing and music teacher working with groups of all ages in Frome schools and communities. Refreshments available. FESTIVAL CLUB 11am-12noon.
£3 ORGAN FIREWORKS KEVIN DUGGAN An organ recital by Kevin Duggan, which will include transcriptions of excerpts from Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and Holst’s The Planets. Kevin has given organ recitals throughout Europe, including St. Jacob’s Prague, Ulm Minster in Germany, Cagliari in Sardinia and cathedrals in Denmark. He has broadcast on Norwegian and Danish national radio and performed widely in Great Britain. Come and hear this cosmopolitan musician at the console of the Wesley Chapel organ. rockin’ rocket of happiness.

£2 WALK: LOST PUBS OF FROME Frome in common with many historic towns once had many public houses, some of them standing next door to each other. This walk will follow a route through the historic streets of Frome to discover pubs with names such as The King of Prussia and Dr Andrews, and will finish at The Griffin where the brewers will give a talk on their craft and a tour of Milk Street Brewery. £2 (on the door only) PROSE & CONS This showcase for local writers promises a thrilling dose of crime readings, compered by Martin Dimery, writer and performer. The identity parade includes award-winning mystery writers Michael Z Lewin and Liza Cody (creator of Anna Lee, Eva Wylie and Birdie Walker). Others in the line-up are Mimi Thebo, Karen Sainsbury, Alison Clink, Peter Waterman and Hazel Stewart. Talented sax player Josh Arcoleo will play a crime medley. FROME LIBRARY 7.30pm.
£4 (including glass of wine) Tickets from the Library only TROMBONICITY Trombonist Garfield Austin returns to the Festival with not
just a pianist for company but three other trombonists as well. For
those who have never heard the glorious, almost vocal sound of a trombone
quartet in close harmony, this is not to be missed. CHRIST CHURCH 7.30pm.
£7 (£5.60) PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOP Frome Camera Clubs will be hosting a digital instruction evening using Photoshop. UNITED REFORM CHURCH HALL 7.30 for 8pm. FREE FROME COMMUNITY CHOIR The 50-strong choir is open to anyone over 12 and is led by Nickomo and Rasullah Clarke. The Summer Concert will be full of rich and beautiful harmony with songs of many genres - pop, folk, world music, all delivered with the choir’s characteristic enthusiasm - a treat for the ears! FREE LORRAINE AYENSU Frome’s Acoustic Club showcase some of their talented regulars, with special guest Lorraine Ayensu and her band. Previously performing as Sweet Lorraine, Lorraine Ayensu’s musical influences range from roots, rock, pop, soul and jazz through to world music. Her guitar playing is melodic, polyrhythmic and percussive, her distinct vocal style has been compared to Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell. “A wonderful mix of soulful ballads and some of the funkiest playing I’ve heard for ages.” Phil Beer, Show of Hands. The acclaimed street dance company, IndependAnce will be
running an exciting residency for young people in the latest hip hop styles.
KICKSTART will offer taster sessions at Frome’s schools during the
day and at the Frome Youth and Community Centre in the evening, where the
company will also perform and demonstrate. This is a unique opportunity for
young people in Frome to work with internationally renowned hip-hop and street
dancers from this superb company.


This band comes so well staffed that they’ll take
up most of the pub so get to The Griffin early to book your space. The laid
back approach of Slippery Fish to rhythm and blues will take you back to
better times. If you like Muddy Waters and Stevie-Ray Vaughne with a touch
of Fleetwood Mac you’ll be at home here.
