Huge range of events at this year's festival

As you browse this website, I am sure you will be amazed at the remarkable range of events. After just five years the festival is beginning to attract internationally acclaimed artists while at the same time remaining true to its aim of involving the local community in every way it can.

Nothing illustrates this aim better than the Frome Instrument Makers’ events, which showcase two talented local craftsmen who make instruments and also play them exquisitely. Don’t miss their display and concert at Holy Trinity Church.

Whatever your musical taste we have something to tempt you. Wonderful classical events like Ruth Zagni performing Bach Cello suites in the beautiful setting of St Mary’s Church, Orchardleigh, which we are delighted to have as a venue for the first time this year.

Alternatively you may prefer folk music and this year we have a really exciting range on offer. From up and coming acts like the controversial Seize the Day to well-established favourites Steeleye Span with Maddy Prior who have got together as a special one-off for the festival.

The more mature audience members will be delighted to see names like Van Morrison, Arthur Lee and Love, John Kirkpatrick and Geno Washington. On the other hand younger fans will find something to interest them in events like Music Mayhem, Audio Collision or the DJ and Hip Hop night.

Comedy fans can choose between Jimmy Cricket at the Memorial Theatre or a more alternative comedy night at Frome Rugby Club. And if you like jazz or enjoy films you will find an equally wide range of events on offer.

I am thrilled that this year we are featuring the works of Gerard Hoffnung. This is a special project involving local schools and members of the Hoffnung family. It is part of our commitment to involve the local community by providing unique opportunities for local children to perform in public in an event of the highest quality. The performance ‘Inspired by Hoffnung’ is likely to be one of this year’s highlights.

Space does not permit me to mention the wealth of other events you will find in these pages. Literature goes from strength to strength as does dance, now in its second year in the Festival. Also, as always, there are walks, talks, workshops, exhibitions and displays, the ever popular World Food Feast and the Proms in the delightful setting of Marston House.

Finally, can I just draw your attention to Friends of Frome Festival scheme. By becoming a paid-up friend you will become a member of Frome Festival Limited and have a say in the election of our Board and perhaps, more attractively, receive significant discounts on ticket prices!

As always, a heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors, funders and all the tireless volunteers who work all year round to make the Festival such a success. Enjoy the programme and go to as many events as possible!
