The parade leaves the Drill Hall in Keyford and marches to the War Memorial outside the Memorial Theatre where a short military-style ‘drumhead’ service will be held. War Memorial Free Music and Memories Music of World War ll played by a local band, with recollections of personal wartime experiences by local people live on stage. An enjoyable educational experience for the young and, perhaps, some bittersweet memories for the older generation. There will be a display of 1940s memorabilia in the foyer. Memorial Theatre (immediately following the service at the War Memorial) Free 12noon Nunney Jazz CafÉ presents - Cool Jazz for a Hot Day Chill out on a long hot lazy Sunday with the grooviest outfits on the Bristol jazz scene: hip-hop icons CCQ, horn kings Silverado, far-out funkmeisters The Blessing, and The Fantastic Englishman himself headlining, Iain Ballamy. With kids workshop/performance and jam session led by keyboard wizard John Law, plus loads of other cool stuff for kids of all ages. The park is where it’s at. Victoria Park Ends 6pm • Free 12.30pm Bach Cello Suites Ruth Zagni, noted exponent of chamber and solo repertoire, performs J S Bach’s unparalleled contribution to the solo cello canon. The six suites demonstrated his supreme skill in harnessing the technical and colouristic possibilities of the cello, and finally brought it out of the shadow of its predecessor the gamba. In this second concert, Ruth performs suites 3, 4 and 5. St Mary’s Church, Orchardleigh £12 (£10) • For two concerts £20 (£18) 2pm Treen Songstress Catherine Neal’s original material enriched with the addition of Jody Turner forms acoustic act Treen. Beautiful weaving melodies journey though an eclectic mix of solo work from the two. A female Ben Harper meets Norah Jones via Patti Smith. ‘A breath of fresh air...’ Griffin Inn Free 2.30pm Walk: Frome’s Historic Past Guided tours with local experts around historic Frome, starting at The Round Tower and ending at Frome Museum, where refreshments will be available. Donations to the Museum are welcome. Meet Frome Tourist Information Centre Event 1008 3pm Workshop: Music for film Create a new film score for Irish classic Man of Aran (1934) under the guidance of Jesse Vernon from Morningstar Small Orchestra, and perform the final piece live at the film screening later in the evening.
