Popular wire sculptor and tutor Celia Smith will once again be teaching you the skills necessary to produce your very own wire sculpture. There will be an additional charge for materials depending on the type of sculpture you create (approx £5).

10.30am WORKSHOP: MORRIS DANCING

Bathampton Morris Men will once again be leading a workshop aimed at anyone and everyone. Whatever your age come along and have a go! Try simple handkerchief and stick dances. It is great fun and good exercise. If you can’t make the whole workshop, just drop in for a while. Please bring two handkerchiefs.

Dick King-Smith
Your chance to meet the world-famous author Dick King-Smith, whose stories, inspired by his farming experiences, include notable characters such as Babe and Magnus Powermouse. Such witty animals speak and behave in crazy ways to make funny books for all children to enjoy. Dick King-Smith will also present the prizes for the Festival’s story and art competitions for local children.

11am WRITER IN RESIDENCE DAY

If you wander up Cheap Street today, you won’t fail to notice Frome’s finest local writers in full flow. Based in a number of the shops they’ll be battling it out for the title of Writer in Residence for a Day. Come and observe the creative process and later read the finished product.

1pm DOMANI – MUSIC FOR FLUTE AND GUITAR

Helen and Denian Arcoleo present an exciting and varied concert of Latin music from the Baroque to the present day. They have performed as a duo and individually at many prestigious venues, including the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Festival Hall, National Theatre and the Barbican, as well as at music festivals and cathedrals throughout the country.

2pm WORKSHOP: FAMILY SINGING

Bring your family on a world tour of terrific tunes with Caroline Radcliffe as your musical guide. There will be action songs and rounds, both rousing and soothing. Impress your kin with your ability to sing in Japanese or Swahili! Caroline is choir leader at St John’s First School and leads Songbirds projects for Jackdaws in local schools.

2.30pm STEVE VOAKE: THE DREAMWALKER ’S CHILD AND THE WEB OF FIRE

Ever thought flying insects might be manned fighter planes from another planet? In Steve Voake’s first novel for children, Sam Palmer is abducted into a world where such planes exist and an evil leader threatens to take over Earth. Steve, headmaster at Kilmersdon School, reads extracts from the novel and the forthcoming sequel. Ages: 8–12 years.

8pm THE BRISTOL SHANTYMEN: ENGLAND EXPECTS - TRAFALGAR 200

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, the world-renowned Bristol Shantymen are carrying out a series of concerts. They will be performing their show, England Expects, featuring the songs, anecdotes and stories of the period. They will also be singing many other shanties and songs and there will be plenty of opportunity for you to join in!

This extremely popular event takes place twice monthly at The Griffin. The festival session is always packed so get there early to ensure your place. 9pm SPIRIT JAZZ

Last year, pianist/composer Keith Harrison-Broninski’s Spirit Jazz quartet was a festival highlight, packing out St John’s Church with thrilling jazz reinventions of gospel, spirituals and African chant. This year they’re back for another candlelit concert with old favourites and new material inspired by Coltrane’s iconic masterpiece, A Love Supreme.
