10am CHILDREN ’S ANIMATION DAY

Learn stop-frame animation, the technique used in Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit. Create your own plasticine model and shoot your very own short film by the end of the day. The Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association brings its book fair to Frome. Over twenty dealers offering a wide range of books from general reading to collectors’ items. Ruth Zagni, noted exponent of chamber and solo repertoire, performs J S Bach’s unparalleled contribution to the solo cello canon. The six suites demonstrated his supreme skill in harnessing the technical and colouristic possibilities of the cello, and finally brought it out of the shadow of its predecessor the gamba.

Edward Elgar wrote at the end of The Dream of Gerontius “…this is the best of me.” and it certainly is! 105 years after its disastrous first performance at the Birmingham Festival, two fellow Midlanders, Jason Thornton and Jeffrey Skidmore, lead the Frome Festival Summer School through one of the greatest choral works ever written. Certainly not to be missed!

7pm FROCK IDOLS PRESENTS THE BIG GIG

Funky, full-on, no frills. A showcase of fresh female talent, featuring two local all-girl bands and the fRock Orchestra – a 20-piece big band of singers and electric and acoustic instruments. The culmination of a year-long project based in Frome, funded by Youth Music, to provide encouragement and opportunities, specifically aimed at ‘Bringing girls in from the outskirts of music’.

8pm JOHN KIRKPATRICK IN CONCERT & MERLYNNA

John is among the finest players of the button accordion, anglo concertina and melodeon and his playing beautifully compliments his voice. He has played around the world with Steeleye Span, The Albion Band and Richard Thompson and his concerts are firmly rooted in the traditional English experience. He is supported by Merlynna, who plays the clarsach or celtic harp.
