1pm ORGAN RECITAL – GERRY HODDINOTT

A recital on the organ by Gerry Hoddinott, who is the accompanist for the Corsley Festival Choir and a well-known local musician. His programme of classical and romantic organ music will include works by J S Bach, Bossi, Howells, Karg-Elert, Rowley, Stanley, Thalben-Ball and Vierne.

2pm WORKSHOP: STAINED GLASS APPLIQUÉ

An introduction to the mysterious and colourful world of stained glass. Artist and maker Helen Langford will lead you through the design and construction techniques to produce your own small framed panel using offcuts of stained glass and the applique method.

Poetry Café always sparkles in Festival week, and this year Rob Gee, hailed as ‘one of the most gifted and funny poets in Britain today’, leads a sizzling night with an ‘open mic’ session featuring the famous Frome Champagne Slam. An illustrated talk by Annetta Hoffnung
Gerard Hoffnung’s widow delves deeply into the rich treasure-trove of his legacy bringing you almost face to face with the man and his work. Using slides, recordings and her personal reminiscences, she offers a unique view of a man full of humour, vitality and joy in life.

Frome Festival is proud to announce that Steeleye Span have agreed to get together for an exclusive one-off summer concert. Everyone knows the stature of this, the world’s most famous folk band – living legends who move effortlessly between the worlds of stadiums, festivals, and theatres. 7.30pm SPANDAUER STADSTREICHER ORCHESTRA IN FROME

As part of their West Country tour, this orchestra from Berlin is returning to St John’s Church. Matthias Bender, Director of Music of the Lutherkirche in Berlin-Spandau, will conduct them in works by Handel, Casadesus, Albinoni and Mendelssohn. This is a fundraising event for St John’s Church.

7.45pm PIP UTTON PRESENTS FRANCIS

A one-man show based on a day in the complex and destructive life of Francis Bacon, arguably the greatest British painter since Turner, a life fuelled by drunkenness, gambling and a liking for a bit of rough. Writer and performer Pip Utton has an international reputation for his work, especially his acclaimed Adolf. He returns to his home theatre to premiere this new work.
