Frome Festival in Paul Merton coup

Paul Merton has decided to do only one scheduled live gig in England this year … the Frome Festival.

The television and radio personality has cleared his diary ahead of a major tour in 2008.

But he has agreed to appear at the festival because he had such a good time last year and was so well looked after.

Martin Bax, the Festival Director, struck the deal for Paul to perform earlier this month through the events management company Purple Cactus Productions.

Bax described the gig at The Memorial Theatre on Friday 13 July as "a phenomenal coup".

"Unlucky for some but lucky for the Frome Festival. We're delighted to have him back," he said.

His agent, said: "Paul is about to go on a very large tour in 2008 and he only wants to do Frome this year because he had so much fun last time. So congratulations you have the only scheduled live performance, in England , this year!
