Frome Festival is thinking Green

 

Green FestivalAs well as the exciting new green events welcomed into the festival programme for the first time, the
World Food Feast
on Saturday 7 July synchronises with the worldwide Live Earth concerts organised by Al Gore.

Local favourites The Critters begin the celebrations, with Bristol-based band Rhythm Republic continuing the party atmosphere.

The Green Fair

Green FestivalThis family event at the Cheese and Grain celebrates all things green.

Following a Grand opening with Kevin McCloud, the fair offers expert advice on how to 'green' your home, garden, shopping and more, with appearances from the Merrill family from ITV's The Green Life .

Live music. All day café run by Cookery at The Grange.

Public question-and-answer session on nature-friendly gardening with panellists Tommy Parker and Jules Curtis (Longleat), Alan Power (head gardener at Stourhead), Charles Dowding (Organic Producer / Fosse Way Magazine).

Chaired by Liz Leyshon (Stroud Theatre Director and gardening guru).

Sustainable Trail

Hidden around Frome, all kinds of re-using, recycling, repairing and renewable energy production is taking place.

The Green Trail will be combined with the Green Quiz to let you in on the secrets. Further information from Sagebury Cheese, Tourist Information, Cheese & Grain.

Green Film / Music Project

Green-themed film shorts, produced by a group of local film-makers and composers, under the auspices of Frome College Media Department. Screenings at The Green Fair and Merlin Theatre.

Farmers' Markets

Don't miss what may be the biggest and best Farmers' Market in Somerset. There is an amazing selection of food to choose from, with the advantage that you can meet the producer and usually taste before you buy.

Held on every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month at the Cheese & Grain and entry is Free.

Schools Recycling Arts Project

Green Festival Events - FROGSChildren from two schools in Frome have worked with local artist Stina Harris to create‘Litterbugs’ from recycled materials.

The Litterbugs will be used to decorate litterbins and will be on display during the Litterati Street Theatre event.

FROGS - Frome Recreation And Open Ground Supporters

Green Festival Events - FROGSOn Sunday 8 July FROGS will be running a range of activities along the River walk into Frome from Welshmill.

These will include a nature trail, making tunnels out of Withies, den building, storytelling and tree sculptures.

Supported by funding from the Local Network Fund and Mendip Housing, FROGS aims to encourage people to enjoy the small area of woodland next to the River Walk into town.

Workshops are free and people of all ages can dip in and out of them as they wish.
