Frome FM 2007 Project Launch
Frome FM, the town's community radio station, has applied for an RSL (Restricted Service License) to enable it to broadcast during this year's Frome Festival.
Frome FM would like to invite anyone and everyone who may want to be involved to attend a launch meeting at the Cheese & Grain at 7:30pm on Tuesday February 13th.
Frome FM 2007 is a partnership project bringing together Frome Community College , the Youth Council, the Cheese & Grain and Frome Festival, plus many other community radio enthusiasts.
"The short term goal is to deliver community broadcasting in July to support the Frome Festival, but longer term we want to start pulling together the building blocks for a permanent community radio station in Frome," said Phil Moakes, Cheese & Grain chairman.
"Over the last few months, a core group have been working up the plans for how we will deliver Frome FM this time round and now it is time to launch those plans."
"We need to bring together a wide range of skills to make this work - presenters, technicians, administrators, front/back office, web skills, graphic design, fundraisers and tea makers," said Howard Vause from Frome College's Media Arts department.
The radio station will broadcast from 2 locations. Frome College will mainly be used for preproduction & training whilst a temporary festival studio will be installed at the Cheese & Grain in the centre of the town.
The project is likely to cost around £12,000 to deliver, with a high proportion of that figure having to be spent on licensing.
Frome Festival Director, Martin Bax, said " This is really exciting news and I am delighted that this year's festival will be supported once again by Frome's own community broadcasting."
Phil Moakes concluded "If we get this right, Frome people will get a community station in July to be proud of. It will not only reflect the festival programme, but also provide a wider community service. What's going on in Whatcombe Road & Welshmill should be up there with what's going on in Westminster & The White House."
