Green Cheque for the Festival
Following the huge success of the Green events at this year's Frome Festival, Green Events Co-ordinator Niamh Ferguson of Sustainable Frome, presents Festival Director Martin Bax with a cheque for £1,164.00.
This was raised from the Green Fair, which attracted over 1,000 people through its doors. Green pledges were made at the Fair, in the shape of a leaf, hand-cut by the children of St. Louis School . The Pledge Tree is still going strong, and people can continue to make their pledges at Frome Wholefoods, until the end of August.
The Gardener's Questions event was also a very popular addition to the festival this year and was a big hit with the audience.Plans are afoot to make it a much larger event next year.
The Litterbugs Litteratti Street event gathered nearly 300 signatures in one hour. This was where the people of Frome pledged to pick up one piece of litter each day, from their street, during the festival. Lets hope people will continue to pick up litter, or at least, not drop any!
In a further incentive inspired by Green things, the Sustainable Map guided people around Frome. Over a dozen houses with solar power, innovative design and exemplary compost heaps, were open to the public. Winners of the Sustainable Quiz, Steve Erlicher and Helen Ottaway, won an £80 energy measuring.
You can still download Radio Frome's Green Show www.fromefm.co.uk where you can hear local tips, interviews and superb jingles.
As the Green Events proved so popular, they will now become a regular feature of the Frome Festival.
Sustainable Frome meets on the first Thursday of each month, the next meeting is August 2 nd , where everyone is welcome.
