Frome Festival 2008 rushed to the aid of celebrated cellist Julian Lloyd Webber ahead of his festival finale at Frome's Memorial Theatre by lending him socks.
Creative director Martin Dimery had looked in on the brother of West End musical maestro Andrew Lloyd Webber ten minutes before the concert had been due to start on Sunday 13 July.
"Julian came out of his dressing room partially dressed and said: "I have only come in white socks. I must perform in black ones,"" said Dimery.
"With the curtain due up in a few minutes, I had only one option but to lend him the black socks I was wearing.
"My only hope is that no-one noticed my bare ankles as I introduced him on stage moments later," he said.
Lloyd Webber returned the socks after the sold-out concert. Dimery considered selling the socks on eBay but decided he liked them too much and put them in the wash.
