The Frome Festival Short Story Competition celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2013 with the appointment of celebrity judge, author Michele Roberts.
Launch date- 1st January 2013 ~ Closing date 31st May 2013
Michèle Roberts is the author of twelve highly acclaimed novels, including The Looking Glass and Daughters of the House which won the WHSmith Literary Award and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Her memoir Paper Houses was BBC Radio 4′s Book of the Week in June 2007. She has also published poetry and short stories, most recently collected in Mud- stories of sex and love (2010). Half-English and half-French, Michèle Roberts lives in London and in the Mayenne, France. She is Emeritus Professor of Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia.
The Frome Festival Short Story competition
For stories on any theme: 1,000 to 2,200 words
First Prize – £300
Second Prize – £150
Third Prize – £75
Plus prizes for local authors (living within a 25 mile radius of Frome Library.)
The winning stories are read by literary agent Jane Judd.
A selection of the suitable stories are forwarded to the fiction editors at Woman’s Weekly magazine for their consideration (all payments made to the authors.) Frome FM the local radio station will broadcast a selection of stories from the long list.
How to enter the Frome Festival Short Story Competition 2013
* Entry fee: £5 per story ~ Multiple entries permitted.
*Entries should not have been published or broadcast.
*Enclose a separate sheet with name, address, email address,
telephone number, title of story and word count.
Spacing: 1.5 or double.
Your story should be stapled.
Your name should not appear in the main text of the story—entries will be judged anonymously.
Critiques: enclose a further £47 per story (and s.a.e large enough for return of your manuscript) if you require a critique of your work and please write ‘Critique required’ at the top of the story and the contact sheet.*
Please ensure correct postage on your entry.
Cheques payable to: Frome Festival Short Story Competition.
No entry form required – The judge’s decision is final.
